New Drug Announcement from Lilly Oncology

Alimta (Pemetrexed) received FDA approval on February 5th, 2004 for patients with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma in combination with Cisplatin.

The recommended dose for Alimta is 500 mg/per meter sqaured administered IV over 10 minutes on Day 1 of each 21 day cycle.

Since Alimta is a new drug it will be reimbursed at 95% of AWP. The AWp price for Alimta is $2437.50 per 500 mg vial (single use vial). The 2004Medicare allowable for Alimta is $2315.63 (95% of AWP). Billable units are 500 mg per unit. Alimta has been assigned the miscellaneous J9999code and the ICD-9 codes are 163.0-163.9.
