CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is a Federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Programs for which CMS is responsible include Medicare, Medicaid, State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), HIPAA and CLIA .

CMS is responsible for implementing the federal guidelines for the Medicare program. MOASC, ASCO and other state and national organizations discuss oncology issues with CMS officials and the impact of Medicare policies on the practicing oncologist.

CMS Issues Frequncy Guidelines for Aranesp For Dialysis Patients / CMS Posted: 04.04.04
CMS has issued CR 2984 stating that Medicare is instituting new frequency limitations for Darbepoetin Alfa (trade name Aranesp) for treatment of ESRD patients on dialysis.

CMS Identifies Drugs & Biologicals Granted Increases / CMS Posted: 04.04.04
CMS has issued CR 3161 identifying those drugs and biologicals granted increases (and their new payment amounts effective April 1, 2004) under the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA).

CMS New Initiative On Consolidated Crossover Claims / CMS Posted: 04.04.04
CMS has issued CR 3109 on the implementation of a new initiative known as the Coordination of Benefits Agreement (COBA) consolidated crossover process,  which changes the existing Medicare claims crossover process.
