On June 23, 2010, MOASC Physicians, Administrators and Patients visited Capitol Hill with Community Oncology Alliance (COA) to “Stand Up for Cancer Care.” This was an important day to meet with members of Congress to talk about the unfolding crisis impacting cancer care. We have the world’s best cancer care but it is clearly in stress.
MOASC board member, Dr. Edward Alexson, was joined by MOASC members: Dr. Michael Moffett, Dr. Jedidah Monson and Maria Madrigal Shaffer from Cancer Care Associates of Fresno; Marissa Rivera from Ventura County Hematology Oncology Specialists; patient, and cancer survivor, Joyce Kasnetsis with her daughter Tammy Damon; Bobbi Buell, Consultant, and Nichole East, MOASC Marketing Director.
The attendees met with:
- Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
- Senator Barbara Boxer and Cerin Lindgrensavage, Legislative Assistant.
- Congresswoman Lois Capps.
- Congressman Jerry Lewis, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee.
- Congresswoman Judy Chu and Elle Bigelow, Legislative Assistant.
- Nora Conners, Health Legislative Assistant for Senator Dianne Feinstein.
- Tara Robertson, Health Legislative Assistant for Congressman David Dreier.

What a great trip to Capitol Hill. Dr. Alexson, Dr. Moffitt, Dr. Monson, Maria Shaffer, Marissa Rivera, Nichole East, Bobbi Buell and Cancer Survivor Joyce Kasnetsis and her daughter Tammy Damon met with Senator Barbara Boxer, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Jerry Lewis, Representative David Dreier and Congresswoman Lois Capps and a few of the health staffers. I think our message was heard loud and clear! |
