Dr. Cary A Presant, M.D., F.A.C.P. a hematologist
and medical oncologist, is the President of the California Cancer
Medical Center.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he recieved his medical degree in 1966
from the State university of New York at Buffalo, and completed
postdoctoral training at Columbia University in New York City,
the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington
University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
He has been involved in laboratory and clinical investigations,
and has been director of cencer programs at Washington University
School of Medicine, the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis and the City
of Hope National Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He is
currently Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Southern
California School of Medicine, and is the Chairman of the Los Angeles
Oncologic Institute, the Cancer Center at St. Vincent Medical Center
in Los Angeles. He is the principal investigator of the Central
Los Angeles Community Clinical Oncology Program, supported by the
National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Presant is the author of over 300 scientific articles, books
chapters, and communications and is a recognized expert in cancer
treatments, cancer detection, chemothereapy, experimental tumor
biology and pharmacology, liposomes for cancer diagnosis and therapy,
magnetic resonance spectoscopy, and measurement of quality of life
in cancer patients.
Dr. Presant is currently the President of the California Division
of the American Cancer Society. He is also the Chair of the Board
of the Medical Oncology Association of Southern California. Nationally,
Dr. Presant is a past Director of the American Society of Clinical
Oncology (ASCO), the world's largest association of cancer physicians.
He is now serving as President of the Association of Community
Cancer Centers (ACCC). He was honored as one of the "best
doctors in America" in
a national publication.
Dr. Presant's current research in West Covina, California, and
at the Los Angeles Oncologic Institute in Los Angeles, is focused
on
liposomal chemotherapy, improvment of chemotherapy effectiveness
by magnetic resonance spectoscopy, and the development of new
therapeutic
programs for cancer. Dr. Presant lives with his wife, Sheila, and
their four children in San Marino.
